CLIMBING BONANZA VIA THE MARY GREEN GLACIER
BONANZA'S MARY GREEN GLACIER IS ONE OF THE MOST ACTIVE IN THE NORTH CASCADES...
I first climbed Bonanza in 1994 with Kim Colis. We were camped at Holden Pass with another party.
We let them take off for the summit ahead of us so we could follow their route on the Mary Green.
They led straight up across the glacier rather than curving to the right to work along the upper edge
of the glacier - the preferred route. We followed their tracks past some amazing glacier topography
that bore evidence to the rapid movement of the flowing ice.
