A fire lookout was built on Remmel in 1932 as shown on the right. Unfortunately, after WWII the Forest Service decided they weren't needed any longer and burned most of them down including the one on Remmel.

So when Roy McMurtrey, Edythe Hulet and I made the long journey in via Long Swamp to do Remmel the lookout was gone. But we did have a trail to follow all the way to the top... easy going except in a few patches where the snow had not yet melted out.
